Thank you for your response. Yes it is sterling, hallmarked 1951. I don't know if the year makes any difference to the quality of silver.

Silver salt pot turned black

I have been lucky enough to be left a 1950's silver and blue glass condiment set and when I removed the blue glass insert of the salt pot the inside is black. I didn't realise salt could damage silver in this way. Is there any way of cleaning this or is the damage irreparable?

Thank you, I think if anything it must be a coat clip. I have a couple of other items with the same sort of clasp and there is only one of each of them.

Is this silver item a brooch.

I have been lucky to have been left some items of jewellery but I am unsure what this piece is. It measures approx 1.5cm x 3cm has a large stone and set with marcasite.
