Salt Maker

Here is what I have, marks don't look normal, with the makers mark within the hallmarks....I suppose the maker mark could have been struck and then the item could have been hallmarked???

In theory ALL items must bear the makers (sponsors ) mark BEFORE being sent to assay .

Okay, so who might the maker be? I have had dozens of 1700 century British items this is the first with the makers mark in between the hallmarks, is this a phantasy piece or real????

Completely real - and also a genuine hallmark. DH is David Hennell I, whose mark is frequently found on salts. The "I" is to distinguish him from another David Hennell, his grandson, who is designated David Hennell II.
