Hello, I am an avid American silver collector and have been for many years. I have always loved the Russian silver trompe l'oeil style but never bought anything for fear of buying a counterfeit and the fact this doubt would remove much of the pleasure of owning a piece. I would greatly appreciate any information on the authenticity and date. Also if anyone knows what it was officially used for that would be greatly appreciated as well or any other info on it. I plan to use it as a sake/vodka bottle. Thanks and please feel free to be as candid as you wish, I greatly appreciate candid and honest opinions over sugar coated ones.
I'm a bit suspicious now if these are the only marks on your bottle? It should have more marks. You see on a Russian object every detachable part should carry marks. You have here the cap, the body and the handles. They should carry marks, do they? Where are the showed marks located? Anyway, this type of assay mark was used 1882-1898. I cannot either identify the maker, However, there are a lot of unidentified makers in Russia. Oh yes, the town mark seems to look like St Petersburg and yes use it for vodka :-))))
