He may have been John Bingley of Southwark apprenticed in 1748 to Thomas Ray (Grimwade p.637-8) a watch case maker and freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company. Bingley was made free in 1756.
He entered marks at Goldsmiths’ Hall in 1763 and 1774 as a case maker from Little Britain and was assessed to Land Tax on property there from 1763-1783. A new tenant was assessed on the property in 1784.
The burial of a John Bingley aged 49 years, late of the Workhouse, registered at St Sepulchre, Holborn in 1783 may be relevant.
