He signed a bond in 1736 as a silversmith aged 25 years from St Vedast, Foster Lane parish to marry Martha Roberts. The wedding took place at St Katherine Cree, London in the same year.
Their son John was christened at St Alban, Wood Street in 1740 and son Henry at St Bartholomew the Great in 1749.
John senior was assessed to Land Tax on unidentified property in St Alban and St Michael, Wood Street precincts from 1739-58, presumably “Facing Hugging Alley in Wood Street”, from where he entered marks at Goldsmiths Hall in 1739 and 1754. The 1758 Land Tax assessment for the property was made on a new tenant confusing still further John Quantock’s entry from that address in the 1773 Parliamentary Report.

Wood Street runs roughly North - South . "Hugging Alley" (or Huggin Alley/Lane ) is on the west side of Wood Street fairly close to it's south ending at Cheapside. So his premises would have been on the east side of Wood Street facing St Michael's Church which stood at the intersection of Wood Street and Huggin Lane.
Neither Huggin Lane or St Michael's still exist. Under a massive office block.
