PLUMPTON, Henry (Grimwade p.628, 764)

Post by MCB »

He was christened in 1718 at St John, Wapping, the son of John and Sarah of Half Moon Alley, Wapping.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Cock Alley, Fore Street from 1745-51.
In 1747 a Henry Plumpton said to be aged 27 and a bachelor of St Matthew parish Friday Street, signed a bond to marry the widow Jane Robertson of St Martin in the Fields at The French Church, Spring Gardens. In view of a later remarriage as a widower in 1756 this may be relevant despite the age discrepancy.
A child Henry Plumpton was buried at St Giles, Cripplegate in 1750.
In 1756 as a widower and silversmith from St Giles parish he signed a bond to marry the widow Rebecca Remington. The ceremony was held in the same year at St Botolph, Aldersgate.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Wapping from 1756-61.
Henry the son of Henry and Rebecca was christened at St John, Wapping in 1758.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property in Maiden Lane from 1761.
Their daughter was christened at St Anne and St Agnes in 1764.
He paid Land Tax on unidentified property in St Bartholomew the Great precinct until 1772.
The 1773 Parliamentary Report listed him back in Wapping.
His son Henry’s application of 1783 for freedom by patrimony in the Haberdashers Company makes no mention of his father being deceased but otherwise no later information has been found for him.
