James, the son of Henry Brooks deceased late of the Goldsmiths Company, signed indentures in 1758 to be his apprentice.
In 1759 as a bachelor aged 25 years he married Polina (sic) Puckridge of St Sepulchre parish at Christ Church, Newgate .
He was assessed to Land Tax from 1760-61 on unidentified property in St Mary Staining Precinct, probably Lilypot Lane and on property in Ozier (sic) Lane from 1762-67. The Puckeridge family continued to be assessed to Land Tax there and if the Ferris family had moved in with them it might explain why Matthew was still recorded there in the Parliamentary Report of 1773.
The burial of a Matthew Ferris, late of St Sepulchre parish, recorded in 1780 at St George, Bloomsbury may be relevant.
