Goldsmiths List (Section VII).
He entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1799 as a gold worker from 36 Old Compton Street, Soho.
As a jeweller from St George, Hanover Square parish he signed a bond in 1801 to marry Elizabeth Hill of St Anne, (Soho), Westminster parish.
Their son Joseph was christened at St Anne’s in 1802.
The 1806 Poll Book records him as a jeweller at 23 Compton Street, Soho. The 1818 Poll Book shows him at the same address as a cheesemonger. The 1820 Poll book again shows him as a goldsmith at that address but in an 1823 trade directory he is again selling cheese there.
He is in the 1835 Poll Book at Alfred Row, Shepherd’s Bush with a sixty year lease where he is recorded in the 1841 UK Census aged 74 years of independent means and living with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth died at Shepherd’s Bush in January 1845, Joseph dying in Kensal Green in October of the same year. Both were buried at St Anne, Soho.
