He was christened at St Luke, Finsbury in 1780, the son of John, a watch maker and his wife Mary.
He entered marks at Goldsmiths Hall as a watch case maker from 12 Great Prescot Street, Goodmans Fields in 1805, from 1 Little Mitchell Street, St Luke’s in 1808 and notified changes of address to 54 Lemon Street, Goodmans Fields in 1811 and to 36 White’s Row, Spitalfields in 1811 from where he entered another mark in 1834.
He was still at White’s Row and in the same trade for the 1841 UK Census where he lived with his sister Ann.
As a bachelor he married the widow Eleanor Lozeron at St Mary, Spitalfields in 1845. The marriage record shows his address as White’s Row and said he was still a watch case maker. Eleanor was the daughter of a silversmith named George Stevens.
The 1851 UK Census for 48 Crispin Street, Spitalfields shows him again living with his sister but there is no record of Eleanor. He had become a journeyman watch case maker. The burial of an Eleanor Strahan aged 66 years, late of Upper Marylebone Street, recorded at St Marylebone in 1848 may be relevant.
His burial in 1854 aged 75 years, late of Cheshire Street, is recorded at St Peter, Bethnal Green.
