I can't identify the hallmark, so I suppose it is silver plated but I don't know if it is from England, from American, or another place..........

Hi Fer,

Welcome back. You've been away far too long!

Yes they are asparagus tongs. They were made in Sheffield. The name of Roberts & Slater (Samuel Roberts and Joseph Slater)was in use for the period 1845-1858. The firm was earlier known as William Briggs (1823-1845) and after the Roberts & Slater period became styled as Roberts and Briggs (1858-1863), and then they became the well known business of Roberts & Belk in 1863.

Regards, Trev.
