CARPENTER, Thomas (Grimwade p.319, 349)

He may have been the son of Thomas, clothworker of St Luke’s parish, who signed indentures in 1760 to be the apprentice of David Pullin (Grimwade p.392) of the Clockmakers Company.
He entered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall from 1775-1796 as a watch case maker from 5 Islington Road and in 1797 as a case maker from 9 Islington Road.
A son Richard was christened at St James, Clerkenwell in 1779; his mother was Elizabeth. Richard applied for freedom of the City of London by redemption in the Goldsmiths Company in 1804.
Thomas senior died intestate in 1803. His last address was 5 Islington Road. His son Thomas applied for Letters of Administration later in the same year on the grounds that the widow Elizabeth had also died and had not herself applied for Letters. The value of the estate was stated to be under £300.
Grimwade p.349 records Thomas in partnership with Richard entered marks as watch case makers from 5 Islington Road in 1803 and notified a change of address to 5 St John Street in 1811.
