BARNETT, Josiah (Grimwade p.309, 341-2)

He was born in 1796 the son of John and Hephzibah and christened in 1804 at Lady Huntingdon’s, Spa Fields, Clerkenwell.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1819 as a watch case maker from 52 Sutton Street, Clerkenwell.
He notified Goldsmiths Hall he had moved to 43 Galway Street, St Luke’s parish and entered another mark as a case maker from the same address in 1821.
The christening record of Hephzibah Barnett at St Luke Finsbury records her parents as Josiah and Ann from Galway Street where her father was a watch case maker.
Neither a marriage nor a death record has been found for Ann but Josiah, a widower, married Sarah Crate at St Bride, Fleet Street in 1828.
The christening records for their two daughters at St Luke, Finsbury in 1831 show their address and their father’s occupation as previously.
He notified Goldsmiths Hall in 1835 that he had moved to 15 Lower Charles Street, Clerkenwell and he was recorded there on the 1841 and 1851 UK Census. The 1851 record shows he employed 12 men.
His wife is named Elizabeth in these records but no marriage record has come to light.
His death in 1854 was recorded in the Clerkenwell register.
