No christening record has come to light for him but his apprenticeship began in 1794 and if the usual entry age of 14 years applied he would have been born around 1780 (see below age at death).
He married Elizabeth Webster in 1812 at St Martin in the Fields; both were from that parish.
Christening records for two children of Thomas, a silversmith, and Elizabeth Ross in 1814 and 1816 at St John, Clerkenwell show their address as Green Street from where Thomas entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1819. The christening record of a daughter at St James, Clerkenwell in 1819 shows their address as Leicester Square but this was the location of Green Street and may not indicate a change.
The burial of a Thomas Ross aged 45 years of Green Street was recorded at St Martin in the Fields in 1825. This detail is at odds with Grimwade’s note that Ross notified Goldsmiths Hall of a change of address to 39 Princes Street in 1837.
