MARSTON, Joseph (Grimwade p.592)

Post by MCB »

The burial at St Luke, Finsbury in 1816 of a Joseph Marston aged 72 years of Steward Street may be relevant.

Almost certainly the correct burial as the Will of a Joseph Marston, Silversmith of Seward Street Goswell Street Saint Luke , Middlesex was proved at PCC on 1 February 1816
Ref NRA/ PROB 11/1577/15

Interestingly (perhaps) the Will of another Joseph Marston, described as "Silver Stamper of Saint Luke , Middlesex" was proved at PCC on 7 March 1837
Reference: NRA/PROB 11/1875/17

Whether he was a relation (perhaps son) is unknown.

No marriage record has been found for him.
Christenings of the children of Joseph and Sarah Marston were recorded at St Leonard, Shoreditch in 1772 when their address was Hoxton Town, at St Luke, Finsbury, in 1775 when Joseph was a watch chain maker and in 1776, 1779, 1780 and 1783 when he was a silversmith. The 1783 christening was of a son Joseph.
The Will of 1837 relating to a Joseph Marston of Holloway aged 53 years who was buried at St Luke’s in 1836 probably relates to the son born in 1783.
