He was born around 1770 as evidenced by the age recorded on burial.
He married Ann Leather at St Giles, Cripplegate in 1796; both were from that parish.
There is a christening record at the same church for a daughter Ann in 1803 which gives no further detail of address or her father’s occupation.
His burial in 1839 aged 69 years is also recorded at the same church; his last address was Coppice Row from where he had registered his last maker’s mark in partnership with Thomas Wise in 1835.
No evidence has come to light during the search establishing the separate existence of Joshua Butler I who Grimwade considered responsible for the maker’s mark registered at Goldsmiths Hall in 1803 from Bridgwater Gardens in partnership with John Allen.
