Christening records at St Andrew, Holborn, one in 1825 and four in 1827 show the parents’ address as Holborn Hill and their father as a flageolet maker. The Wikipedia website indicates that a flageolet is a woodwind musical instrument of the fipple flute family. William Bainbridge introduced the “Improved English Flageolet” in 1803 and continued to work on the design to patent further improvements.
He entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1827 as a smallworker from 35 Holborn Hill.
His burial in 1831 aged 62 years is recorded at St Andrew, Holborn; his last address is simply recorded as “Holborn”.
The business was continued by his wife Harriet until it was sold around 1835. She had entered a maker’s mark in 1831as a smallworker from 35 Holborn Hill.
