Hello to you all from Romania! It's my first message on this forum. I've used 925-1000 site many times for identifying my silver and this site helped me a lot. But this time i have a problem with the identification of a cross that my parents offered me as a Christmas gift. My father told me that this cross belonged to my grandgrand-father who was an orthodox priest in Basarabia- actual Moldavia. I've took some photos of it. If you could help with identifying this cross i would be very grateful.
You probably mean identifying the place and maker. It is made in the town of Kostroma in Russia by Vasilij Fjodor Sorokin 1880-1886. Above Jesus head is an abbreviation in Russian (usually in Latin Letters I.N.R.I), that means Iesus Nazarenus Rex Judeorum. Jesus from Nazaret King of the Jews.
Thank you very much for the informations. I'm not quite sure what do you mean by fake... I understand that it's maybe a "self-made", but a fake i don't think so... i mean that for me fake has a different meaning. Fake (in my opinion) it an object made for deceiving or for cheating, but in this case i don't think it was made for this. I don't argue anybody, It's only my unprofesional opinion.
Thank you again for your information and i wish you all a Happy New Year !
Hi -
according to the Russian law every part of an object must be marked! Every chain link and the cross. If this is not the case, it is a fake, meant to cheat.
