Born around 1787 in Witney, Oxon.
Pallot’s Marriage Index records the marriage of Jacob French and Sarah Capon at St Mary, Whitechapel in 1807.
Christening records for 11 children between 1808 and 1824 have been traced to St James, Clerkenwell register. Jacob and Sarah’s address recorded as Cold Bath Square in 1814, Rosomon Street in 1815, Clerkenwell Close in 1817 and St James’ Place 1822-24. Jacob was shown as a jeweller on each record 1814-24.
Jacob re-married as a widower to Jane Stable a spinster on 10th July 1841 at St Paul’s Chapel, Winchmore Hill, Edmonton. Jane was born around 1790 in London.
No record has been traced for Jacob on the 1841 UK Census.Three of his sons are recorded there as jewellers living with one of their sisters at Newcastle Place, Clerkenwell.
1851 UK Census for Highfield Cottages, Edmonton as a working jeweller.
1861 UK Census for 15 Elgin Crescent, Kensington as a retired jeweller.
Wife Jane died 1864.
London Deaths & Burials Index for St James, St Pancras register dated 14th January 1864. Aged 74 years; last address 15 Elgin Crescent.
1871 UK Census for the same address as a retired jeweller.
Died 13th September 1871.
London Deaths & Burials Index for St James, St Pancras dated 19th September 1871. Aged 84 years; last address Elgin Crescent.
National Probate Calendar for Principal Registry dated 29th September 1871. Value of estate under £12000.

Jacob French is listed as a jeweller on Highfield Road in the 1841 UK census, likely the same location as the 1851 census.
