1841 Scotland census George and family are listed in Edinburgh. He as a "J smith."

October 7, 1847 Stevens (born without the liberty of the city to wit Edinborough, Scotland) son of George Beckwith citizen and goldsmith of London was granted freedom of the city by patrimony.

1849 Stevens immigrated to the U S. His 1917 obituary reported that he had worked for Gorham Company for many years, and at the time of his death he was believed to be the oldest (age 93) silversmith in the trade.

1851 Scotland census for Edinborough shows what appears to be the remnants of George's family members without George. According to family members, George died in 1844.

1807 Nov - 1808 Mar George son of Jonah Beckwith goldsmith granted freedom of the city by patrimony.

It may be that this occurs primarily in the nineteenth century, but the standard form used to record freedom by patrimony typically does not have the date that freedom was granted to recipient. There is a place for the information, but it is left blank. Instead, the father's year of admission and the recipients year of birth are given.
