TAYLER, William (Grimwade p.677/8)

Post by buckler »

Grimwade (and Helen Clifford in "Silver in London " , page 200 ), equate the William Tayler who was a partner with John Wakelin from 1776 with the William Taylor who was apprenticed to John Eaton in 1765 (William Taylor II) . He is given by Clifford, page 106, as the half brother of Thomas Forrest , "William Paris Tayler, who had joined Parker and Wakelin in 1769 and would eventually take over the business with John Wakelin in 1776 "
Page 143 gives him as also "half brother to Stephen Vitou", a client and , page 196, as having appeared in the business accounts from 1769 as an employee of Wakelin and Parker.
I consider it unlikely that William Paris Tayler = William Taylor II .
William Taylor II was only apprenticed in 1765 and would not been free by 1769. He was still shown at No 9 Huggin Lane in 1780 in both trade directories and the Poor Rate books .

3 August 1792 William Tayler Panton Street in the Parish of Saint Martin in the Field Goldsmith & Jeweller will proved. The Forrest relationship is affirmed in the will, and the Stephen Vitou relationship is explained. He was an inlaw, and Stephen's wife was William Tayler's half sister.
