Hi Robert12 and welcome to the forum,
I think that it probably is Erich Iser of Memel/KlaipÄ—da (Lithuania), but to be sure I would like to see a high resolution photo of the marks.
Best regards/JAKJO

can You make a larger image of the Hallmarks?

Hi again,
I noticed an engraved inscription on your spoon. I would appreciate if you could post a photo of this. Perhaps it is a kaplak-spoon given to a captain of a merchant ship?

hi Jakjo&Theoderich,
i thought maybe Memel, from my 1968 Poincons D,argent.have not acquired spoon yet so cannot enhance marks.the inscription you referred to on the back is "Thomas&John Ogilsie&Comp.so i was taking this as being done at a later date.am i right in thinking pre 1800?i have early English ,Irish & Scottish of similar type.are early German spoons very collectable?it is an area i am not yet familiar with.
Regards Robert

Hi,
I am quite sure, that the spoon was made by Erich Iser, who was born in 1740 in Norrköping, Sweden. He worked between 1761-1769 in Tilsit. (Scheffler Tilsit #2). The 27. March 1769 he was a master and citizen in Memel (Scheffler Memel # 7). He moved in 1792 to Insterburg (Scheffler Insterburg # 3) and was supported by his son Gottfried Carl (goldsmith in Tilsit, born in Memel 1773). Ref: Wolfgang Scheffler ”Goldschmiede Ostpreussens” (1983).
The maker's mark is not shown and before published. Scheffler describes it as "ISER" in a square, when he deals with Iser's time in Insterburg.
I would say that the engraving, Thomas & John Ogilsie & Comp, could well be from the same period 1769-1792, when the spoon was made.
If it can be proved that the company was active in shipping this will add to the interest of a collector.
Please, post new photos if you acquire it.
Best regards/JAKJO

Hi,
I meant to upload this ages ago with regard to Memel marks, better late than never !
These 2 table spoons are from Memel (klaipeda) and most likely Erich Iser (thanks Jackjo from earlier threads)
One is EI and the other ISER, both inscribed Thomas & John Ogilvie and Co.
They were Scots who went to Memel and set up a potash company in 1771 so dates fit nicely.
Mention of them in this informative article.

Many thanks for this images.
The [EI] mark of Iser is not in the Scheffler book.
Very nice spoons.
