Help Needed Identifying Portugal/Portuguese Tankard Maker

Post by MSeverson519 »

I bought this tankard around six months ago, but haven't made any progress in identifying it's maker. The photo taken is hard to make out, but the mark is in a basic "shield" type shape with the inscription "Santiago Estanho Puro 97.5%" and "Portugal" written directly below the "shield." It weighs about 3.5 pounds and stands at approximately 8". Any insight into who might have crafted this tankard, or it's area of origin would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Disregard the links above. Here are the photos. Also... The design on the front appears to have a lion, some vines?, a castle, and flowers.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Are you sure that your item is silver? It looks like pewter to me.

"Estanho" is Portuguese for pewter.
