Overstamped Maker's Mark

Postby treefish » Mon Jan 28, 2008 4:05 pm

Hi there..I recently acquired these nice tongs and reckon they date to 1872...Glasgow. However the maker's mark (Muirhead and Arthur) has been over stamped by that of another maker (JM & Co.) I am curious to know what the reason for this was and also for information and/or dates for JM&Co. Thanks in advance....treefish

Hi,

Do a search for "overstamping" and you'll find a few threads on the subject.
