need help with mark on pen

Post by iamturnip »

Hello,

I have a silver looking pen and pen holder, but it is not stamped with sterling or 925. It does have what looks like a makers mark near the end of the pen. Seems to me like the mark on the left is a JL with a crown on top and the mark on the right is a maple leaf or even a butterfly? Any information greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The mark on the right looks like an Angel to me.
Angel marks are often used on European and Scandinavian pewter.

Don't know who used the JL mark.

Hello,

I like how active this forum is. Thanks for your insight on this. I don't think this item is pewter however. It doesn't have the feel or look of pewter.

The base(not pictured) has been cast and cut with what looks like a more modern machine. The pen also has a cast mark. I don't think this item is any older than the 1960's.

I shined it up today, and it is brilliant. Must have looked good on someone's desk.

I have the same markings on a heavy silver ballpoint pen. It has no markings on it other than the same imprint under the clip. The JL and to me looks like a snowflake. Very sleek and expensive looking pen.

Did anyone get any resolve with this? I have a bottle opener with the same markings. I can't find anything online about it.
