Taper box made in Bath

Post by Jimmymac »

I have never posted before but thought a picture and marks of a taper box made in Bath by William Bottle and Jeremiah Willsher might be of interest. It was hallmarked in London in 1798. According to Grimwade Bottle & Willsher recorded their partnership in 1796, and according to posts on this website Bottle was listed at 43 Walcot street, but I know nothing more about them. I have handled London made taper boxes before, and this example is taller and has a long projecting "barrel" on the cover to accommodate the taper - perhaps these are regional variations.

Hi Jimmymac,

Welcome to the Forum.

What a great example of the work of William Bottle and Jeremiah Willsher, and yes, it's very much of interest.

Many thanks for sharing it with us.

The details have been added to The Goldsmiths of Bath thread.
