ROKER, Elizabeth (Grimwade p.645)

Post by MCB »

Elizabeth Lee married Phillip (sic) Roker Spoon Maker at St Giles without Cripplegate in 1765; they were both from that parish.
Philip Roker III (Grimwade p.645, 765-6) was last assessed to Land Tax in 1775 on his premises in Bishopsgate Street.
A mark was entered at Goldsmiths' Hall in June 1776 in that name as a spoonmaker from 96 Bishopsgate Street.
Elizabeth Roker entered a mark in October 1776 as a plateworker from Bishopsgate Without but no street name was included in the address.
The 1776 Land Tax assessment book for the Bishopsgate Street premises originally showed Philip’s name but had been crossed through and “Wren” substituted.
The widow Elizabeth Roker from St Botolph’s parish, Bishopsgate married a John Wren of Stratford Bow at All Saints, Poplar on 13th February 1777.
John Wren II (Grimwade p.711) entered a mark at Goldsmiths' Hall on 27th February 1777 as a spoonmaker from 95 Bishopsgate Street.
Wren's full name did not appear on the Land Tax assessments on the property until 1780.
