FRISBEE, John (Grimwade p.515)

Post by MCB »

He married Elizabeth Shiers at St Andrew, Holborn in 1807; both were from that parish.
Christening records in 1813 at St Pancras for two daughters show their address as Charlton Street, Somers Town, Camden and their father as a silversmith.
The christening record of a son at the same church in 1817 shows his address as Somerset Street and his father still a silversmith.
The UK Census of 1841 for Water Lane, Blackfriars shows him as a modeller and at the same address in 1851 still a modeller but also a pensioner of Silversmiths (benefit?). In 1851 his wife Elizabeth was living with a son Charles, a victualler, at Bull’s Head Inn, Ewell, Kent
His wife Elizabeth’s burial aged 65 years was recorded at St Martin in the Fields in 1852; her last address was in Hayes, Middlesex.
The England & Wales Death Index for Camberwell Registry records his death in 1861. No age or last address is shown in these records.

I am a descendant of John Frisbee. His son Charles Richard Frisbee emigrated to Melbourne Australia in 1852 where he married Miss Palmer. They had three daughters all born in Collingwood, an inner suburb of Melbourne where Charles, a wood engraver, ran a poster design and printing press. Some of his works are still kept in the National Gallery of Victoria mainly theatre and amusement posters. After he became quite wealthy the family moved back to England where he owned the Three Tuns hotel (now the King George IV Hotel) in Eton before his wife died and they all returned to Australia. His daughter, Marian, married William Burge, an Australian born furniture manufacturer, they had 8 children. My grandfather, Charles William Burge being the eldest son. Charles Burge, his son Edwin Burge (my father) were both graphic design artists. It seems the creative talent may be genetically passed on. Hope this is helpful and of interest. Peter Burge
