FELINE, Edward (Grimwade p.293, 335)

Post by MCB »

He was possibly christened at St Martin in the Fields in 1772, the son of goldsmith Edward Feline and his wife Christian and Indentured to his father in 1786.
Duties were paid in 1796 for the Apprentice Indentures of Charles Boyce by Edward Feline, watchcase maker of Pittman’s Buildings, Old Street.
As a bachelor he married Mary Anne Gregg at St Mary, Aldermanbury in 1796; both were from that parish. Edward and John Feline were witnesses. They may have been his father and brother.
Christenings of two children of Edward & Mary Anne both in 1801 are recorded at St Mary Islington.
Christenings of four more of their children are recorded 1802-11 at St Giles without Cripplegate but show no other detail.
In 1814 he entered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall from 7 Serle’s Row, Bath Street, in 1821 from 8 Pittman’s Building, City Road and in 1820 from 5 Howard’s Place, Clerkenwell all as a case maker.
Christenings records at the same church for daughters Mary Anne in 1815 and Catherine Christian (named for her grandmother?) in 1817 show their father as a watch case maker from Peerless Row.
The burial of an Edward Feline aged 65, late of Paul Street, recorded at St Leonard, Shoreditch in 1836 may be relevant.

In addition to his being mentioned by Grimwade on page 293 he also appears on page 335 in regard to his entering a watch case maker's mark from 3 George's Row, City Road in 1794 and notifying a move to 8 Pittman's Building in 1795
Whether he maintained a presence at the latter address, using it as his business address again in 1821 (see above), is not known.
The watch case maker Frederick Feline (Grimwade p.335) was his son.
