DUTTON, Samuel (Grimwade p.498)

Post by MCB »

Christening records in 1825 and 1827 at St Marylebone for two daughters of Samuel and Ann Dutton show their address as St Clement Dane and their father as a silversmith. The St Clement Dane address presumably relates to 99 Strand from where Samuel registered a maker’s mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1823.
Christening records for a further 5 of their children at St George, Bloomsbury 1831-41 show their parents from Hyde Street and their father continuing as a silversmith.
Samuel is absent from the family for the 1841 UK Census for Hyde Street and also for the 1851 Census where the record shows his family had moved to Clerkenwell. Unlike the 1851 record, which shows Ann as a widow, the 1841 Census has no provision for marital status. No record of Samuel’s death has been found but his being registered as the father of the child christened in February 1841 it is possible he died in the short period to June 1841 when the Census was taken.
