Samuel Glover I.
Born 1st November 1752.
Christening record for St Sepulchre, Holborn register dated 13th November 1752; parents were John and Mary of Cow Lane.
The City of London freedom documents for his sons Samuel II in 1795, George in 1802 and William in 1805 record that Samuel I had also obtained his freedom but the date of his freedom is not entered.
Married Ann Russel at St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney on 24th August 1773. Both parties were of that parish. Ann could only make her mark on the marriage register.
Christening records from 1774-99 have been traced for 14 of their children, one in the St Botolph, Aldersgate register in 1774, one in the St Mary, Staining register in 1784 and the others in the St Anne & St Agnes, Aldersgate register. None record the parents’ address.
Grimwade records Samuel Glover’s first maker’s mark registered in 1775 at Goldsmiths Hall as a goldworker from 3 Mutton Court, Maiden Lane and the next 5 from 1791 to 1807 at Noble Street. As Samuel Glover had died in 1800 the marks thereafter must have been registered by his son (see below).
Trade Directory entries as a goldsmith and jeweller at 4 Noble Street in 1789-90.

Burial record for St Anne & St Agnes register dated 7th August 1800. Aged 48 years; last address Noble Street.

Christening record for St Botolph, Aldersgate register dated 18th December 1774.
Granted his freedom by patrimony in 1795.
Pallot’s Marriage Index records the marriage of Samuel Glover and Sarah Sommers at Christ Church, Newgate in 1796.
Christening records from 1797-1814 have been traced for 8 of their children, one in the St Botolph, Aldersgate register in 1797, Samuel Henry in the St Olave, Silver Street register dated 1801 and the others in the St Anne & St Agnes, Aldersgate register. None except the 1814 entry records the parents’ address; in that year they are shown in Bull & Mouth Street.
4 maker’s marks were registered at Goldsmiths Hall 1791-1807 in the name of Samuel Glover as a goldworker from Noble Street. Any of these marks registered after 1800 would have been registered by Samuel Glover II. In 1807 he registered a maker’s mark as a goldworker from 4 Noble Street and four more between 1809-16 from 4 Bull & Mouth Street.
James Beard in January 1811 and son Samuel Henry Glover in June 1815 were Indentured as apprentices to Samuel Glover gold ring maker of Bull & Mouth Street.
Post Office Directory 1819 records him as an engraver in Bull & Mouth Street.
Died 1822.

Samuel Henry Glover's christening record dated 1st November 1801 is in the St Olave, Silver Street register.
Indentured as an apprentice to his father in June 1815.
Married Priscilla Ann Glover on 24th November 1822 at St Mary, Islington.The bride was from St Olave, Southwark parish.
Christening record dated 10th October 1823 for son Samuel is in the St Anne & St Agnes, Aldersgate register. Samuel Henry is recorded as a ring maker of Bull & Mouth Street. Further christenings records at the same church 1825-8 show the father at the same address as either a ring maker or goldsmith.
In 1825 and 1829 he registered maker’s marks at Goldsmiths Hall as a goldworker from Bull & Mouth Street.
Post Office Directory 1829 records him as a mourning ring maker still at Bull & Mouth Street .
A Christening record for another of their children in 1830 in the St Olave, Southwark register shows Samuel Henry as a butcher living in Kings Head Yard. Another christening record for one of their children in 1835 in the All Hallows, Lombard Street register shows Samuel Henry as a poulterer living in Homerton. The christening occurred after he had died.
In 1829 Thomas Egerton White (Grimwade p.381) registered a maker's mark as a goldworker at 4 Bull & Mouth Street.
Died 1835.

In 1841 his widow and children were living with her father and mother in the St Dionis Back Church parish in the City of London.

Samuel Glover II entered his first mark from 4 Bull & Mouth Street on 5th October 1809 (see above) having previously been recorded at the Noble Street address. There was seemingly a need for his mother to register a separate mark at this address.
