Kiddish Cup? with very primitive tree & 'DH' hallmarks

Post by imnideit »

Hi,
I don't know which catagory this should go in, this is a small footed silver cup, 3 inches tall, and has wonderful early hallmarks as shown, a tree and a DH, please help me figure out what the marks are, how old it is, and what it might be. Thanks a million forum!
Tom

Hi and welcome to the forum,

No it is not a pyr (pine tree cone), but a Swedish oak tree from Eksjö!

The beaker is made bý Daniel Hedberg, born the 12 July 1791, apprenticeship by Anders Petter Ekedahl in Eksjö and Daniel Hedberg was a master the 29 August 1819. He died the 15 April 1849.

It is not fully marked, it lacks the three crowns in a trefoil, the so called cat's paw and the year letter.

My guess is that this beaker was made between 1820-1830.

Best regards/JAKJO
