Found this little salter (9X6,5cm) in Germany, but have no idea where to place the hallmarks. Will appreciate any help finding out about town and silversmith. Thanks in advance.

Hi Theoderich, I have some doubts; if you compare the eagle of Ludwigsburg and the eagle of the salter (if it is an eagle): Ludwigsburg has 1 head, the salters eagle is doubleheaded. Could it be Neuss? doubleheaded eagle with a cross on the right side...

| So I contacted the Württembergisches Landesmuseum in Stuttgart - they were extremely helpful: it is "Gold- und Silberarbeiter" Christoph Jacob Nikolaus (=Rufname) Häberle , son of "Silberarbeiter" Johann David Häberle born 1785 in Ludwigsburg, married 1811 and became widower in 1848. Stylistically the salter was made between 1811 - 1815. |
