Help ID Makers Mark on Dutch Tea Strainer

Postby moller04 » Wed Sep 23, 2009 3:27 pm

I have a sterling tea strainer that I have identified as Dutch based on the hallmarks: Lion passant facing right with a 2 under it (.833 silver content),

and a X indicating date of 1907.

I have been unable to locate the Minerva head on the piece. The makers mark appears to be S G with a symbol in between or S T, or G S, TS. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Can't see the middle mark too well.
That could be the mark of G. Spannet of Amsterdam (1891-1921).
The founder used the mark G2S until he died in 1905.

His widow continued the business until 1921. She used the same mark, except there was a number 3 between the G and S.

Thanks Pat - that could be the mark. The mark in the middle could be a 3 that has been cut off a little. I'll do some more checking.
