Hammond,Creake & Co

Post by Alain »

Hello,
I recently purchased this coffeepot .I found on this site that the maker is Hammond,Creake & Co.from Sheffield.
Can you tell me why there is no crown on my item?
I also like to know what the "5" means, and the number "1807"
If you know anything about the style and the year this was made would be greatly appriciated !
Inside the pot there are some whitish residue, maybe calsium, can you tell me how i can clean it, without having the risk of poisining my guests?
Thanks for your time, and a MERRY CHRISTMASS TO YOU ALL!!!
Alain

Hello.
The use of the crown in a shield (cartouche) on British silverplate was banned around 1897.
So, your coffee pot dates to between 1897 and c.1935.

The 5 is probably the capacity of the coffe pot.
Five pints? Not sure of the British measurement used.

1807 is the catalog number.

Pat.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for all that info!
I tried cold and hot vinaigre to clean it, but it doesn't seem to do the job.
I have another, perhaps to drastic way , and that is to use Amonia .
For now i leave it as it is, there might be somebody who have a better idee.
Greetings,
Alain
