J. H. Birks, secretary-treasurer, and J. H. McKee, a director of Henry Birks & Son, Ltd., Montreal, are making a trip of inspection of the Birks stores, with a view of bringing the branch establishments more closely in touch with the head office. They are formulating a plan of placing in each store a complete stock of up-to-date goods direct from the larger buying centers. A Birks' buyer will be continually on the ground in the principal markets and will supply each branch with the latest novelties. When in Winnipeg recently in the course of their tour, J. H. Birks stated that all of the stores had done exceptionally well during the past year and that the Christmas trade was considerably ahead of the previous season. G. A. Birks, son of W. M. Birks, the vice-president of the company, will become a member of the Winnipeg staff.

Retailer mark of Birks-Ellis noted on a cigarette-case manufactured by W.T. Toghill & Co., of Vyse Street, Birmingham, and assayed at Birmingham in 1938:
The formal opening of the jewelry store of Ryrie-Birks, Ltd., Toronto, which his been entirely remodeled and redecorated in the Florentine style of architecture, took place on April 11 and attracted a large number of visitors. The store was decorated with a profuse display of flowers and palms effectively arranged. A feature that attracted much attention was a painting showing the visit of the late President Harding to Canada, where he is depicted addressing a large crowd at Vancouver on July 26, 1923. The picture was subsequently shown at the store of Henry Birks & Sons, Montreal.
Henry Birks & Sons, Montreal, diamond merchants and manufacturing silversmiths, have secured the lease of the lower floor and basement of the Cawthra block, corner of Yonge and Temperance streets, Toronto, for a term of 13 years.

The new building which Henry Birks & Sons, Ltd., are erecting for their own manufacturing and office business near their retail store on Phillips Sq., Montreal, is nearing completion and will be in full occupation in the course of the next few months. The firm has decided to let off a certain portion of the building in handsome office suites, and application is being made for them already. The building is of absolutely fireproof construction, and with passenger and freight elevators, cheap electric light and power, low insurance rate and unobstructed light in all the offices, together with perfect sanitary arrangements, tend to make this business structure one of the most up-to-date in the city.
