I.G and pseudo lion 1730’s style sugar tongs

Post by mk209 »

These 1730’s style sugar tongs are marked on both the finger rings with I.G and a pseudo lion.
Any idea who the maker and where they come from?

Hi Matt,

Not sure that is a pseudo mark. To me it looks like John Gorham, a prolific maker of tea-tongs.

Ok thanks Trev, the lion looked a bit odd but the 1740’s lions did vary quite a bit. I haven’t enough good marks here to check as most 1740’s marks are squashed or worn! These marks were quite good.
