Hi Traintime,

Yes you are correct, 1931.

The maker is Robinson & Co Ltd, The Square, Shrewsbury. The photos is a little small for me to tell which of the two registered marks you have. Which ever, it will be either the latest seen of the 1st mark or the earliest seen of the 2nd. Can you provide a better photo or advise if there is a dot under the Co as it would be good to provide Phil with this info for his great site.

Cheers,
Steve

Unfortunately I have to disagree with Steve. This is actually the earlier and plainer "q" of 1911. The R&Co mark is the earlier version registered in 1905.

Although in a photo the date letters from these two cycles (1896-1915 and 1916-1935) may appear similar, the shapes of the lion passant and leopard's head punches are completely different:

I was too quick and focused on the maker mark. It is absolutely 1911. Sorry about that.

This might technically be considered a commercial site as they sell image copies, but there is an archived photo of their location here: http://search.shropshirehistory.org.uk/ ... 3_S_32_35/

Thanks all for an exacting and expeditious reply. Didn't realize that image was transmitting with lower resolution until I tried to expand it. Here were the original (3rd party) close-ups:
