Hello,
I bought the following piece this weekend at a tag sale and it is actually my first ever piece of British Sterling. An administrator suggested I post a picture of the engraved crest with hopes of identifying the former owner or family. I would appreciate any help,
Thanks

Re: Trying to find out the family
A search through Fairbairn's Crests shows the motto "Fear not" being used by Dawes, and "Fear nought" being use by Ramsay.
But looking at the crests used by Dawes and Ramsay, there are no lion's heads erased, the crest here. (The Ramsays used mostly unicorn's and horse's heads; Dawes, other charges.)
Sorry! So far, we don't have an identification for you.

Also from Fairbairn's published 1883?, Carter Hants Lions Head erased "Fear Not." Not an expert on this subject or any other for that matter, but just thought I'd give this one a shot. So corrections are welcome.
