Silver spoon. Kingdom of Prussia tax mark(?).
Re: Silver spoon. Kingdom of Prussia tax mark(?).
Your spoon was made by Johann Friedrich Dumrath, silversmth in Stralsund and son of Martin Dumrath, also silversmith in Stralsund. The spoon shows the city mark of Stralsund and the maker's mark JFD in cursive letters.
Ref.: Wolfgang Scheffler, Goldschmiede Mittel- und Nordostdeutschlands, Walter de Gruyter, Berlin New York 1980, no. 27a, p. 525.
City and maker's marks are also shown on Theo's excellent website on German marks.

You're right, the mark is JFD.
Could you send me a link on this website in pm?
Thanks a lot.

Re: Silver spoon. Kingdom of Prussia tax mark(?).
Certainly, here it is
http://silberpunze.freehost.ag/
It is in german. It is a collection of real town and maker's mark from real objects. There is a Search box, in which you have to write a name or letters for a silversmith or a city/town and then press the button Abschicken (= Send). The site then returns all the names/words that contain the letters you wrote. It may or may not have what you need but I found the site really helpful.
Good luck!

Thanks for the links, it very helpful.
Unfortunately, on this site there is no search by initials, as I understand it, you need to know the master name or the city?

Re: Silver spoon. Kingdom of Prussia tax mark(?).
Interesting...
You are correct. For the combination of letters JFD or jfd I also got no returns. This is strange because I have used the search engine of the site many times with only some letters and/or initials and have been successful.
If you can find the country and then the town it is then very easy to use. There are many widely available reference books and websites to help you, beginning with this site.

If the maker's mark reads JFD, it is Johann Friedrich Dumrath, Stralsund um 1820.

@RedMask
you need to know the city, then you look on the pics and find the initials (or not).

Dear RedMask,
My page is about 9 years old but some functions are not from the beginning.
Somebody (that's me) needs to put the makersmark in the database and old images have no entry in database.
But now I've done it for this master.
