Caviar spoon

Post by Qrt.S »

I have found this caviar silver spoon, lenght 15 cm. The marks are a bit strange. To me it looks like it is imported to USSR between 1927-1946, but?
The marks from the left:
1. A rabota mark for Moscow (Greek delta) and 800 (fineness) with a cut end punched by the assay office on the request of the Soviet customs
2. A mark P in a circular shield. This mark (Cyrillic R) is most likely a "restoration/repair" mark and should be followed by a year mark but there is no year mark (?). I cannot understand why this "P" is punched?
3. The mark ММД and no idea of what is this abbreviation or what it means.

Now from the right (these marks are up side down)

1. VS in an oval frame...?
2. 800. This is the fineness mark
3. Looks like a "star/cogwheel"....?
4. Looks like a head, possibly with a helmet, looking left in a circular frame....?

Any ideas of its origin and meaning of the marks would be much appreciated

Not every cup is a kiddush cup and not every spoon is a caviar spoon!
Silver and caviar taste like sulphur. Caviar spoons are made of horn, bone , mother of pearl, wood, maybe plastic but never of silver.

For Serbian silvermarks Google may help - the photo of the spoon´s marks are not clear enough to see of which year they could be. Serbia, Belarus, Ukraina, Bulgaria and Mazedonia are the only countries next Russia using Cyrillic letters. In this countries your search must start - but I opt for Serbia.

Caviar spoons are also made of silver and therefore bowl is gilded like it is here.
I think the origin of the spoon is Poland. I finally found the mark ММД 1927-46. It is ММД 1927-46. It is Монетный Двор Москва i.e. Moscow Mint Office.
