I have got a small (approx 2inch) owl pendant, with a chain attached, the hallmark is of what looks to be 2 crabs...?
anyone have an idea of what these hallmarks represent
the owl looks to have emerald eyes, and the owls head pivots side to side slightly, i have got photo's should anyone what a look..
Tom,
thanks for your advice, i wasnt even aware it was a key chain... i have got a closer picture of the hallmarks if your interested, and my apologies for posting in the wrong group.. like i said, i didnt know anything about it, so i naturally took it to the group i knew would...
this is a closer look at the "crab" hallmarks, there is other marks such as the letter "B" and then TE underlined and a diamond (lozenge) shape. Would these be genuine emeralds? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Since 1838, the crab is the silver guarantee mark for small articles made of .800 purity silver outside of Paris. I'd guess the age of this piece at mid twentieth century.
"Bte" is an abbreviation of Brevete, it is akin to 'patent' or 'copyright'.
The diamond form is the maker's mark, the letters and symbol inside the diamond designate the maker.
To use it, slide keys on chain past the elongated link at center, take long center link and fit it into the cross notched tab, pull chain through. VOILA! a keychain.
Tom
ps. Can't see any reason that the eyes are not little emeralds.
