17th century Swiss Apostle Spoon?

Postby legrandmogol » Fri May 31, 2019 2:23 pm

I believe this spoon is Swiss, it is very much in the style of Swiss Apostles spoons that date from 17th - to early 18th centuries but I am not familiar with the mark on this as it is not fully struck. The best I can guess is it's the Appenzell mark used around 1633 - 1688 but as I said, this is merely speculation. The maker's mark appears to be a CB or possibly CD though I lean towards CB. The seller described it as late 18th early 19th century but I have never seen a Swiss Apostle spoon like this from that era.

Thank you for the quick response. One more thing. When did this silversmith work? Is the same silversmith that became J Bossard and sons or is my spoon more modern and done in the old style. Bossard is known for historical fantasy pieces.
