Hi all, first time poster here. I'm trying to find the origin of a silver tray marked Balci 900. My internet searches indicate that this might be Turkish or Italian. Has anyone else ever come across a mark like this?

Also, how confident can I be that this is actual silver? I found this at a garage sale and did one of those acid tests that came up positive, but could it still be silver plate? I'm just beginning to get into silver so it's a big learning curve for me!

Hi,
Balci is a Turkish name.
Acid test is reliable only if the superficial layer is filed deep enough to expose base metal.
There are electronic testers now (avoid the damage to the tray with filing).

Thank you for that! I had a look online for electronic testers and have concluded that they are way out of my price range haha! I might ring a jeweller or two and see if they can help me. And now I can narrow my search down to Turkish makers! Cheers for the info :)
