Please help identify silver hallmark, maker's mark on flower vase

Post by Gerox »

Hello All,
There is a nice flower vase, 800 silver. I think it is Italy.
Until yesterday I had thought before 1934, today I'm not so sure.

I can't identify the silver hallmark, maker's mark.

Can anybody help me with the determination of the manufacturer and the period of manufacture?
For any help I would be very grateful. Thank you!

Yes is Italian and very typical as shape and details.
there is the mark with the lozenge so you can locate between 1944 (no "fascio" symbol) and 1968 (1970).

The id number and the province into the lozenge is not clear at all
and sometime puctures are more confusing than what you can see by eyes

it seems XXX MI
please look better and try to see nuber and letters

not only the mark are recalling to a period around the fifties-sixties, but the design too, very typical vase of that period.

Hi, Italiansilver
Thank you for your efforts.
Better is the mark not to recognize. But there is to this a similar, better punctured.

Here I recognize 745 MI, EUGENIO & ENRICO RANZONI - Milano, so could come with MI.
Could it be that it is the same manufacturer?
How many Italian silversmiths have made such objects in the 60s?
Can it be that in the longue other letters instead of the numbers of the registration number and afterwards the MI region was punked?
Looks almost like (E & ER / MI)
Best regards

good morning!
as first i want do a clarification regarding the id mark into the lozenge
i suggested to investigate a pssible mark "province + number" because I have a sugar pot with the mark FI9 in a very rough lozenge that really seems more an oval, so I deduced that, maybe in the very first time of application of the registration id mark there were some marks not yet unified.

But I would exlude a mark with "letters + province"

I suppose that the mark is in the inner bottom at the junction between the base and the vase, that location is very thick to mark, so usually marks in that part are often unreadable or marked twice one over one.

Regarding the region of provenience I can say that for modern silver objects there is no much style difference from a region to the other, with few exception for particular objects of local tradition, IE you can find a Venetian cuccuma or a centerpiece in the Venetian 700 style done in Venetian area or Milanese area, but never (or very rarely) in Sicily.

Here a similar vase
mark is not clear but to mi seems to be <97 (or17)FI>

Good evening Italiansilver,
Thank you for your profound work. They are very helpful for me and I appreciate them very much.
In fact, the mark in this inaccessible position and the size of the bottom of the vase can not be reached directly with a magnifying glass.
Since you exclude that it could be letters, I will continue to try to decipher a meaningful combination of numbers ... let's see.
Thank you for the comments on the style in the regions ... excelent!
Have a nice evening
Best regards
