Silver Crab // is it Spanish? - Salt Cellar? - Snuf Box? Caviar Dish?

Post by Silverscott »

I purchased this crab recently for not a lot of money at all; mostly because I love the design and thought it was quirky!

I am having great trouble identifying its marks or anything about it for that matter. I have a read a few things online that was suggest it is spanish but it really hasn't been clear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please see images below.

thanks!
Scott

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the Forum.

We'll need much larger close-ups of the marks if we're to help.

Much better. It appears to be Portuguese, the mark on the left being struck by the assay office at Porto and indicating an 833/1000 silver standard:

This mark was in use from 1938 to 1984.

Hopefully someone else can identify the maker.

Hola, me ayudaría mucho si me pudiera dar un dato para su identificación. Dentro de la marca tiene que tener una o dos iniciales puede mirar si las puede ver?

Hello, it would help me a lot if you could give me a data for your identification. Within the brand you have to have one or two initials can you look if you can see them?
