LUPTON, Charles (Grimwade p.291, 334)

Post by MCB »

He was christened Charles Barford Lupton in 1794 at St James, Pentonville, the son of William and Mary.
He entered marks at Goldsmith’s Hall in 1815 from Red Lion Street, Clerkenwell, in 1816 and 1817 from St James’s Place, Clerkenwell and in the same year from the same address in partnership with Edward Lupton, all as a case maker.
His marriage to Sarah Cross was registered in 1822 at St Botolph, Aldersgate; he was from St James parish, Clerkenwell.
He entered marks as a watch case maker from St James’s Place in 1828-29, notified a move to Wilmington Square in 1832 and to York Place, Barnsby Park in 1833 before entering another mark from Brunswick Street, St John Street, Clerkenwell in 1834.
Six children of Charles Barford and Sarah Lupton then of Corporation Row were christened at St James, Clerkenwell all on the same day in 1837 including their son, also Charles Barford, who had been born in 1823.
No further trace of any of the family has been found in the UK. Charles Barford Lupton junior was however listed as a brewer in the Broadway and Mason district of San Francisco, USA in 1872-73 which may indicate they had all emigrated.
