HOOPER, Giles (Grimwade p.295)

The son of William Hooper an apothecary from St Paul Court he was apprenticed to Edward Bramstone Bayley (Grimwade p.434) of the Clockmakers Company in 1749. He signed his first name as Gyles. He was free in 1758.
William Bret (Grimwade p.331), the son of Richard Quinton a weaver from Fetter Lane, became his apprentice in 1761.
As a case maker he entered marks at Goldsmiths’ Hall in 1763 (Grimwade shows Giles) from Gravil (Greville) Street, Hatton Garden.
Page 158 of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World lists him from Greville Street and a freeman in the Clockmakers Company until 1772.
A Giles Hooper entered another mark in 1777 as a case maker from 17 Union Court, Holborn.
No further information has been found.
