As the son of Solomon Gibbs, a deceased weaver of Stepney, he was apprenticed in 1708 to Uriah Bonington of the Clockmakers Company and free in 1716.
He paid Duty in 1717 for the apprentice indentures of John Eaglesfield of London.
Also in 1717 he entered a mark at Goldsmiths’ Hall as a case maker from Plough Yard, Fetter Lane.
He was assessed to Land Tax on property probably in Plough Court from 1717-20. Christenings of children of Solomon and Judeth Gibbs were recorded at St Andrew, Holborn with this as their address in 1718 and 1719. The property was empty in 1721.
Solomon Gibbs was assessed to Land Tax on property in Whitechapel from 1735-37. The property was empty in 1738.
Page 122 of Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World lists him as a freeman of the Clockmakers Company until 1735.
No further information has been found for him.

Re: GIBBS, Solomon (Grimwade p.295)
I believe the master in this case was BERRINGTON, Urian (Grimwade p.289). Had I not just been looking at the name myself, I would have never caught this just because deciphering eighteenth century penmanship and spelling variations is so challenging and leaves miles of room for error.MCB wrote:he was apprenticed in 1708 to Uriah Bonington of the Clockmakers Company and free in 1716.
