BARRAS, Joshua (Grimwade p.299)

Post by MCB »

He was christened in 1696 at St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney, the son of Samuel Barras a weaver of Spicer Street and his wife Mary.
He was apprenticed in 1713 to Jenkin Davy (Grimwade p.292) of the Goldsmiths Company and free in 1721.
He married Hester Bromhall at St Katherine by the Tower in 1721.
He entered marks in 1724 and 1731 at Goldsmiths' Hall as a small worker from Elliott’s Court, Little Old Bailey, Holborn.
Joshua and Samuel, sons of Joshua and Hester of Old Bailey, were christened in 1725 and 1733 respectively at St Sepulchre, Holborn. Their son Thomas was christened at St Bartholomew the Great in 1741.
Robert the son of Robert Heath of the Haberdashers Company signed indentures in 1746 to be his apprentice.
John Brotherton (Grimwade p.338) was turned over to him in 1749 to complete his apprenticeship.
He was listed as a goldsmith in Aldersgate Street in the 1750 London Poll Book.
His son Joshua applied for freedom by patrimony in the Goldsmith Company in 1753.
Henry Smith signed indentures to be his apprentice in 1753.
The burial of a Joshua Barrass in 1758 at St Pancras Old Church without record of age or last address might be relevant.
