Stephen Adams I (Grimwade p.399, 419-20, 734) entered a mark from St Ann’s Lane in 1764.
His son Stephen Adams II (Grimwade p.399, 420) entered his own marks from there from 1792.
As a widower Stephen Adams II married Elizabeth Stevens, a spinster from Gloucester, at St John Zachary in 1793. This church is close to St Ann’s Lane and was recorded as the groom’s parish of residence. Stephen senior signed as a witness to the wedding.
They had a daughter Elizabeth who was christened at St John Zachary in 1796.
The Times newspaper of 14th May 1823 carried a notice of sale of the stock, furniture and other effects of Stephen Adams, silversmith of 3 St Ann’s Lane, Aldersgate.
Elizabeth Adams and Charles Hastings Rich (Grimwade p.641) entered a mark in partnership from this address on 18th June 1823. In the circumstances the reasons for this partnership are not entirely clear particularly as it was Stephen Adams’ name on the 1823 Land Tax assessment on the property and who went on to enter marks from elsewhere in 1824-5, dying in 1840. There does not appear to have been a family relationship between Elizabeth Adams, mother or daughter, and Charles Hastings Rich.
Whatever the reason for the partnership between them at St Ann’s Lane it had apparently ended by 1824 when the Land Tax assessment book showed the property as empty.
